True zero downtime across all capabilities is rarely achievable. The goal is minimizing risk with controlled maintenance windows, brief user lockouts when necessary, clear cutover criteria, and safe rollback paths—prioritizing production safety over marketing slogans.
Named individuals—not generic teams—should own key roles: cutover director, plant operations leader, data steward, integration lead, security officer, vendor coordinator, communications lead, and recovery owner. Clear accountability enables fast, coordinated responses during the cutover window.
